mobile phone users in Pakistan

According to a new survey sponsored by Google, there is a significant change in the way Pakistani users use the internet and in 2014 the number of internet users using smartphones will be higher than that of desktop users. ۔ Currently, about 91% of Internet users in Pakistan use desktop computers at home, which is why desktops are dominant, but 45% have a smartphone or tablet as well. 18% use these smart devices more than personal computers. Mobile devices are gradually gaining ground and 86% of Pakistani internet users use personal computers to access the internet on a daily basis, 77% use smartphones, while 59% use tablets daily.

Due to this trend and in view of the upcoming 3G technology services, the prices of smartphones and tablets have come down. It is expected that feature phones equipped with internet facilities will also continue to play an important role. Power outages are also fueling the trend of using smartphones and tablets in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of this research, Tania Adros, Manager, Asian Growth Markets, Google Asia Pacific, said, “We believe that 2014 will be the year when mobile internet dominates the desktop internet in Pakistan. As consumers are adopting smartphones and tablets, businesses should pay attention to this. It all comes down to knowing your user and understanding the users, so everyone needs to learn again and again how much they know about Pakistani users and the internet. ”

The findings come as a result of a study conducted by Google's IDC firm on more than a thousand Pakistanis. The Pakistan Digital Consumer Study was conducted earlier this quarter to review the lives of Pakistani consumer contacts. This research has revealed many interesting things. Pakistani digital users are now more connected to the Internet than ever before. Seventy percent of those surveyed use the Internet daily, while 60 percent say the Internet is the place they like to spend most of their personal time.

The proportion of people who watched TV (41%) and those who read newspapers (24%) was lower than those who preferred the Internet. According to this research, home is the most preferred place to use internet, only mobile users also prefer to use internet with home Wi-Fi connection. The average Internet usage is 2.25 hours on weekdays and 3 hours on weekends. The three main activities on desktop and mobile internet include social media, email and general research. Interestingly, digital Pakistanis love to learn the content that comes on their smartphones. Research and billing on online banking, financial services and investments are also popular on smartphones that point to a future where educated Pakistanis in the digital world will create their own web work. ۔

A major challenge to the spread of the Internet in Pakistan is the provision of quality and stable connectivity including slow and bandwidth availability, pricing, quality of service delivery to customers, limited selection of projects and service. Speed includes impediments. Lack of electricity is also a major reason.
